Theresa was born September 20, 1936 in Seattle, Washington, to Kiowa Bill Walker and Aileen Virginia (Graves) Walker, both of whom precede her in death. She is also predeceased by her brother, John Walker. She is survived by her adoring common-law husband, Rick Appleby, son, Kyle Manes, daughter, Jayne Allen, son-in-law, Scott Allen, sister, Yoma (Walker) Huot, brother, Bruce Walker, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and former spouse, Jay Manes.

Her son, Kyle Manes of Houston, Texas has 4 children: Kristy (Manes) Mueck of Rayne, Louisiana has 3 children, Kalie Mueck, Devin Mueck, and Jade Mueck; David Manes of Louisiana has no children; Jason Manes of Austin, Texas has no children; Erin (Manes) Hogan of Astoria, Oregon has 1 child, Summer Hogan.

Her daughter, Jayne (Manes) Moore-Allen of Elgin, Texas is married to Scott Allen of Elgin, Texas and has 3 children: Jesse Moore of Austin, Texas has three children, Caleb Moore, Christian Moore, and Cadence Moore; Josh Moore of Austin, Texas has 4 children, Aubree Moore, Mickey Moore, Aoife Moore, and Don (Donnie) Moore; Jordan Allen of Austin, Texas has no children.

She was the oldest of 4 children. Her brother, John Walker, is survived by his wife, Koreen and his son, Christopher. Her sister, Yoma (Walker) Huot, lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with her daughter, Heather (Davis) Randeley. Yoma also has two sons in the Baton Rouge area, Shawn Davis and Wesley Davis. Her youngest brother, Bruce Walker, also lives in Baton Rouge, in the home they grew up in, and has no children.

Theresa had fond memories of her early childhood travels telling stories of their living in Florida and Texas before settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her father was in the oil industry and she found his stories of Burma fascinating, which could be the inspiration for her love of history and reading of historical novels. One of her earliest memories was riding her tricycle on a cruise ship back to the U.S. from Argentina in 1941 and the ship having a full blackout when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.

She was a lover of life and enjoyed festive activities around the year, be it Christmas, New Years, St Patrick's day, Mardi Gras or a birthday - it didn't matter, life was worth celebrating. She loved art and going to art museums and theatre. She continued to love travel and especially loved to be with nature and animals in their environment. She had a special affection for birds and dogs and was passionate about helping orphaned ones. She had an eye for beauty (an artist at heart) and was accomplished at painting, sewing, and decorating. She loved dance throughout her life; she was a Fred Astaire dance instructor in New Orleans in the 50s and picked up teaching again for a country and western dance studio in Houston in the 90s.

Theresa contracted pneumonia shortly after having hip replacement surgery and became very ill due to a resistant strain. She was in intensive care for almost 4 weeks before she became too weak to recover and died peacefully on May 11, 2017 in the early morning, 3:45am, at Houston Methodist St. Catherine's Hospital. She was 80 years old.

She will be remembered for her fun-loving nature, her resilience, self-determination and independence, as well as her warm and loving heart. If she could join us today, it would not be to mourn but to celebrate the joyous moments we had with her
