Gregory Louis Sweeney, age 69, was called to heaven on Wednesday, the 25th of March 2015. Greg was born on the 20th of August 1945 in Fairborn, OH to Henry Morrow Sweeney and Marie Boisfontaine Sweeney. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1965, earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1970. After graduation, he proudly served his country and practiced law in the United States Air Force while on active duty, retiring as a Major in the Air...

Gregory Louis Sweeney, age 69, was called to heaven on Wednesday, the 25th of March 2015. Greg was born on the 20th of August 1945 in Fairborn, OH to Henry Morrow Sweeney and Marie Boisfontaine Sweeney. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1965, earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1970. After graduation, he proudly served his country and practiced law in the United States Air Force while on active duty, retiring as a Major in the Air Force Reserve. For many years Greg practiced law in the oil and gas industry. He loved watching football, westerns and war pictures, but his most cherished times were serving his fellow man. Amongst them were Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Knights of Columbus, being a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, numerous veteran charities and various other civic organizations.
Greg is preceded in death by his father Henry Morrow "Mike", mother Marie, brother Tim and sister Marie Thode. Greg is survived by his devoted wife of twelve years, Rani, and her sons Ken and Bob; his son, Jason (Nancy), grandchildren Ben and Charlotte; his son, Jeff (Amy), grandchildren Oliver and Grant; his son, Colin (Kristen), grandchildren Finn and Oliver; his brother David and family, nephews Michael and Patrick, brother-in-law Bill Thode and his family, his sisters-in-law Manori Panapitya and Dakshini Senanayake and their families along with many close long term friends.
Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family from 5:00 until 8:30 PM with recitation of the holy rosary at 6:30 pm presided by Deacon Thomas C. Newhouse on Monday, March 30 at the Dignity Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77494. A reception will follow the rosary.
The Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 31st at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056 with Rev. Msgr. Frank H. Rossi and Rev. Patrick Grey as co-celebrants. Rite of Committal to follow at Forest Park Cemetery Westheimer. A reception in celebration of Greg's life will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
